Fabriano
is the city of paper by heritage.In the 14th Century, the Art of Paper,
even if it was the youngest of the local corporations, was ever present
with its local representatives in the Municipality, monopolizing the
economic development of the city and carrying out a major role in the
political life of the community. The protagonists of that University
in line with pro-capitalism were in contrast to the strict and mediocre
schematics of the corporative order of the day. The continuance and
interpretation of this secular tradition, heir and divulger of the more
authentic and peculiar values of the history and economy of Fabriano,
the 'Pia Università dei Cartai' (Pious University of the Paper Makers),
today continues to perpetuate and confer the Art of paper by diffusing
the technique and providing historical memories for all future generations.
